STATEWIDE YOUTH ADVISORY COUNCIL (SYAC)

The SYAC brings together providers, youth and young adults to advise the Department of Mental Health. We are a group of Young Adults who work together to find equality and to advocate for each other, ourselves, and any youth and young adults in the DMH system and the community. We represent youth and young adults with mental illness in the state of Massachusetts through personal experience as peers. YOUTH DEVELOPMENT COUNCIL (YDC)
The Youth Development Committee (YDC) was formally established as a sub-committee of the Massachusetts State Mental Health Planning Council in 2002 to focus on transition age programming (defined as those individuals between the ages of 16 and 25) and to create a voice for youth. It continues to serve as an advisory board to the Mental Health Planning Council, and has been key in the development of the Department of Mental Health’s (DMH) Transition Age Youth (TAY) Initiative. Meetings occur on the 4th Monday (pending holiday) of every other month in Boston, MA. PPAL YOUTH GROUPS
Hope (Helping Others Promote Equality)
is a Worcester-based youth-led group for teens and young adults who deal with social, emotional and behavioral issues. Nearly 20 youth are actively participate in HOPE. They support each other, connect with other youth in the community and organize events. Many youth represent youth voice by speaking at public events, participating in conferences and creating materials for other youth. Mentors (former members of the group who are now young adults) work with and support the group weekly. The group consists of youth and young adults ages 17-24. TAG members lead activities and advocate for youth voice and changes identified by group members. TAG youth are EMPOWERED to make change happen. This group will meet on Thursdays in Central Mass.
